Self portrait Marley Siu-Yin Strodl

Reflections at 10: Paintings by Marley Siu-Yin Strodl exhibits work by a budding 10-year-old artist. The inspiration behind this show began with a portrait of his father, Oscar Strodl, who is a visual artist. The portrait captured a quality of his father that was striking, and Marley was encouraged to keep painting. Over the next 10 weeks of summer, Marley did a painting a day–he set up an outdoor studio in a gazebo and painted en plein air all around the garden on warm summer days. On rainy days, he came inside to paint in the living room while listening to music with his family. Beginning with self-portraits, portraits of his family and his dog, Willa, and his cat Ragnar, and other people, he turned his eye to capture still lifes and then landscapes as the summer unfolded. Looking at the progression of his works, one can observe the evolution of a young artist’s exploration of color, mark making, and subject. Growing up in a family of artists, Marley is motivated to follow in his father’s and older sister Lida’s footsteps to attend Walnut Hill, an arts high school in Natick, Ma. With a focus normally attributed to high school freshman vying for an art college, Marley, as a fifth grader, is diligently working on his portfolio to be presented in three years.

Join us at the Nicole Vidor Real Estate office at 727 Warren Street in Hudson, NY Saturday, August 12th at 5-7 PM for the opening of this remarkable exhibit.
